1960s


1962: The first store of Wal-Mart was founded by Sam Walton (1918-1992) in Rogers in Arkansas.

1969: Wal-Mart Ltd was first established in 31 October 1969.


1970s


1970: The central office was build in Bentonville in Arkansas , and the first delivery centre was founded.

1972: Wal-Mart was listed in the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange)


1980s


1983: the first Sam membership store was founded in the middle west of Oklahoma state.

1984: David Glass take up the job of CEO.

1987: the satellite network was being completed and it was the largest personal satellite system in the USA.


1990s


1990: Wal-Mart became the biggest retailer in the USA.

1991: Wal-Mart opened the first store in Mexico, which marked Wal-Mart stepped into international market.

1992: Walton, S. Robson replaced David Glass as the CEO of Wal-Mart.

1992: Wal-Mart entered into Puerto Rico.

1993: the international office was founded.

1993: the sales of a single week first reached up to 1 billion in December 1993.

1994: Wal-Mart purchased 122 Woolco shops.

1995: Wal-Mart turned up in Argentina and Brazil.

1996: Wal-Mart established co-partnership company in China.

1997: the stock of Wal-Mart became was involved in Jones Industrial Average Index

1998: Wal-Mart purchased 21 Wertkauf stores in Germany, which resulted in its German market.

1999: Wal-Mart purchased 129 ASDA supermarkets and opened its market in UK.


21 Century


2000: Wal-Mart was ranked the fifth of Fortune Global 500 Companies.

2000:Lee Scott became the President and CEO of Wal-Mart.

2001: Wal-Mart was on the top of the Fortune Global 500 Companies.

2002: Wal-Mart developed its market into Japan.

2004: Wal-Mart held the Global Board of Directors Conference in Shenzhen in China.

2007&2008: Wal-Mart stayed at the first place of Fortune Global 500 companies.
