The summer of 2009 is going to be tough for this year's graduates. The latest investigation shows that there is a large reduction in graduates' job opportunities.

According to the research on 100 most famous companies in UK, most of apprentices' vacancies have been occupied. Graduates' jobs are predicted to decrease 17% this year.

High Fliers Research, an expert institution on graduates employment market, conducted a survey of UK's 100 famous companies, including British Airways, HSBC. The survey shows that UK's financial system accounts the largest percentage in the reduction.

This research shows that banking job opportunities for graduates decreased 47%, retail industry job opportunities had a 26% reduction and the graduates work opportunities of media industry had a 32% fall. The only increase in the job opportunities occurred in public servant system, which showed a 51% rise during the last two years.

Many companies decreased the scale of graduates jobs from 2008, which means some of the graduates of 2008 currently cannot find a job. The director of High Fliers Research, Martin Birchall, said: "It seems that the graduates of 2009 will face the most difficult situation since 20 years ago, we can understand the panic of the graduates. To those graduates who haven't started to look for a job, there is only a small chance for them to get a job at the last minute."

National Union of Students, Wes Streeting said: "Those statistical data causes a lot of concerns, graduates have to afford their huge loans due to their tuition fees. Credit crunch threatens not only the graduates but also those students who have to earn money on their own to cover their tuition fees, if they cannot find a job, many of them have to drop out of university."

The only thing could be happy is the initial salary for the graduates who have already got a job rises by 6% to £ 27,000 per year.
