Roman Arkadyevich Abramovich was born on October 24, 1966 in Lithuania.
His mother died before Roman was two and his father was killed in a accident less than two years later. As a result, Roman was raised by his paternal grandparents.
Roman Abramovich attended the Industrial Institute in Ukhta before the Soviet Army drafted him a soldier. After his return from the army, he left the academic world for good after a while.
While still in Moscow, he set up a small company producing plastic toys, and its success enabled him to found an oil business in the Omsk region.
Between 1992 and 1995, Abramovich created companies that acted as resale intermediaries and he eventually focused his attention on the purchase and sale of oil.
In 1995 he partnered with Boris Berezovsky, a Russian business man, to purchase a controlling share of the oil company Sibneft. The company became his in 2000, when Berezovsky left Russia over a fraud scandal and sold his shares to him. Sibneft was finally sold to the state-run Russian gas company, Gazprom, in 2005.
In December of 2000, Abramovich was elected governor of the region Chukotka and has invested millions of pounds in the development of its educational system, hospitals, and a college. He was appointed as regional governor to this region for two terms: from 1999 to 2005 and from 2005 to now.
In 2003 Roman Abramovich purchased the Chelsea Football Club in the United Kingdom.Thanks to his wealth, it was possible to buy better footbal players to join his team. As a result, other teams have had to redirect wealth in order to keep up.
Roman Abramovich currently is known as the second richest person in the United Kingdom and resides in West London.
He has been married twice and he has 5 children.
