10 golden rules; when doing an internship abroad
1. Before doing your internship abroad, try to do some research of the culture you are planning to do your internship in.
2. Do not make instant judgments or prejudicial assumption about your colleagues from different cultural backgrounds when doing internship abroad.
3. What you may perceive as abnormal and wrong during internship, others perceive as normal and acceptable.
4. Try to understand how your communication skills and working style may be perceived by your colleague from different cultural backgrounds.
5. A great idea is always a good idea regardless of where the idea originates from.
6. Not all ideas from your internship management are good ideas.
7. Not all ideas from your internship management are bad ideas.
8. All problems that you may encounter while doing your internship abroad may not be due to cultural differences. The problems can be a result of personal, commercial or technical related issues.
9. Do not over-estimate your colleagues language skills when communicating in a second language during your internship abroad. Just because they are good at their second language, does not mean they are perfect!
10. Companies that function well and co-operate well across the cultural boarders within the firm will prosper in an increasingly global economy.
